Is It Morally Acceptable to Be a Billionaire? OHS Students and Teachers Debate

Students and teachers put their debating skills to the test in our annual competition.

Our annual Teacher versus Student Debate took place on Tuesday, with both teams tackling the moot, ‘Is it morally acceptable to be a billionaire?’

Our student team of Arlo Gould, William Scott and Nathan Marshall took on Mr Burton, Mr Payne and Ms Dwane, who defended the billionaires on the affirmative side. It was an entertaining debate, with plenty of strong arguments and humour from both teams.

The event was hosted by Ja-bez Halasima and enjoyed by an audience of over 100 students. Thank you to the OHS Debate Club for organising and adjudicating the competition.

After much deliberation, the judges awarded victory to the teachers by a narrow margin, continuing their winning streak. Our students are already determined to turn the tables, with another debate planned for Term 1, 2027!
