Congratulations to Ms Anjalin Karan and Mr Reid Douglas, our 2026 award recipients.
On Monday, at our Senior Prizegiving, we were delighted to recognise two outstanding teachers, Ms Anjalin Karan and Mr Reid Douglas, as recipients of the 2026 Fran Compton Awards.
The awards are generously funded by former OHS student Andrew Grant in honour of his former teacher, Fran Compton, who went on to become Principal of St Cuthbert's College. Fran inspired Andrew's passion for learning and these awards recognise the significant difference excellent teachers can make to their students. Each award is valued at $2,500 and recognises teachers who demonstrate outstanding teaching practice at Onehunga High School.
Ms Anjalin Karan joined Onehunga High School in 2022 and has made a significant contribution to teaching and learning, particularly in Physics. She is a dedicated teacher who continually looks for ways to improve her practice and support student achievement. Her commitment to professional learning, willingness to share ideas with colleagues and strong relationships with students have contributed to excellent academic outcomes.
Mr Reid Douglas is a former OHS student who returned to the school to complete his teacher training. He has since become a highly valued member of our teaching staff. An exceptional teacher of Product Design, he builds strong relationships with students and has a particular ability to support those who have previously struggled academically. His patience, subject expertise and belief in his students have contributed to outstanding results.
Both teachers demonstrate the difference that excellent teaching can make to student progress and achievement. Their commitment to continually improving their practice and supporting their students reflects the high standards we value at Onehunga High School.
Congratulations to Ms Karan and Mr Douglas on this well-deserved recognition. We also sincerely thank Andrew Grant for his continued generosity in recognising and supporting outstanding teaching at OHS.
