Last week OHS students, Rania Singh, Buwaneshi Elpitiya Acharige, Vinnie Carter, Lawrence Stanley-Schuster, Jacob Cooper, and Emerson Rockell, joined students from across New Zealand to attend the World Vision Youth Conference.
The conference was a leadership event aimed at igniting a passion for justice and equipping young Kiwis with tools to create meaningful change. With nearly 2,000 youth participating annually, the conference inspires students to become social advocates within their schools and communities.
Throughout the event, attendees explored their leadership potential, engaged in discussions about global and local injustices, and learned how to take action. A highlight of the day was hearing from guest speaker Roy, a Year 13 student from the Solomon Islands and a passionate advocate for climate action, child protection, and gender equality. Roy shared powerful insights from his experiences, including speaking at the UN and advocating for children’s rights in the Asia-Pacific region.
Interactive activities throughout the day helped students embed their learning and left them inspired to lead change.
The students who represented OHS at the conference were outstanding ambassadors for our school. Congratulations to them and Ms. Shital Wati for her support.
