Course selection on SchoolPoint opens on Wednesday 17 July and closes at 5pm on Sunday 4 August.
Students are encouraged to take the time to explore the information on SchoolPoint about the different subjects on offer. They should ask their subject teachers, kaitiaki teacher, and/or dean if they have any questions. Students and families are also encouraged to attend the Careers Expo afternoon on Wednesday 17 July, from 3pm to 6pm. All Learning Areas will be showcasing their courses from Year 10 to Year 13 and will be available to answer questions. The school uses these course selections to build the 2026 timetable, so any changes after 4 August are discouraged, as staffing is allocated based on the choices students make.
Subject Selection at OHS
Making thoughtful choices about your academic pathway is important. At Onehunga High School, a wide range of courses is offered at all year levels. The OHS SchoolPoint course selection tool plays a pivotal role in helping you make informed decisions. It provides insights into each course, outlining progression from junior to senior school and beyond. This can support you to strategically plan your educational journey. The course pages give an overview of the wide array of subjects available at Onehunga High School for study next year. Selecting appropriate courses should involve conversations between students, parents, kaitiaki teacher, subject teachers, and possibly the dean or leaders of learning areas.
High school is a time to explore new interests and opportunities. It is often a good idea to keep your course selection broad for as long as possible. Focus on your strengths and genuine interests, as this will help you choose courses you enjoy and can manage successfully. Choosing your subjects carefully ensures you do not limit future study options. If you have a specific career in mind, research which subjects are required or recommended for that pathway.
If you have not yet decided on a career, it is important to begin thinking about possible future directions and areas of interest. The course information pages provide guidance on how to begin this process, including a section on tertiary education. The Careers Advisor, Ms Shaw, is available to help students explore the wide range of tertiary study options and career opportunities. Staying informed about these evolving trends is especially helpful in a rapidly changing world.
It is important to choose your courses wisely. Consider whether the subject allows for a University Entrance pathway and whether you meet the prerequisites for the course.
The link below provides step-by-step instructions on how students can select their subjects and have them approved by a parent or caregiver. Please note that you will not be able to complete this process until course selection opens on Wednesday 17 July. It must be completed by 5pm on Sunday 4 August. In the meantime, we encourage you to look through the subjects available on SchoolPoint and begin planning your 2026 courses.
