Year 9 student Hunter Pert made the most of his school holidays with an extraordinary run of high level competition, both on the ice and on wheels. From Dunedin to Hamilton, Hunter's schedule was packed and his performance was nothing short of impressive
First up, Hunter laced up his skates for the NZ National 14U Ice Hockey League, representing Auckland White in Dunedin. The team battled through tough matchups to finish the round in second place, keeping their championship hopes alive as they prepare for the next round in September.
No sooner had he left the ice than Hunter was back in action, this time in Hamilton at the 2025 Oceania Inline Hockey Championship, where he pulled double duty, playing for both the 13U and 15U Kiwi Black teams. Over four intense days, Hunter faced off against two top Australian national sides and a fellow New Zealand team.
Hunter’s leadership and talent stood out. He was named captain of the 13U Kiwi Blacks, leading the team to gold, and served as assistant captain for the 15U squad, who took home silver. But the accolades did not stop there. Hunter was also named All Stars Top Scorer in the 15U division, a testament to his skill, focus, and fierce competitive spirit.
With his medal count growing and leadership credentials firmly established, Hunter now awaits word on possible selection for the 2026 State Wars in the USA, where he could represent Oceania on the international stage.
Ka rawe Hunter!
