OHS Hosts a Celebration of Culture at the Lalaga Event.

OHS Hosts a Celebration of Culture at the Lalaga Event.

OHS was proud to host the Lalaga event on Friday night, a vibrant celebration of culture, community, and connection.

Lalaga is a whānau-driven initiative led by Māori and Pacific parents and caregivers from across our Kāhui Ako schools. Their vision is to strengthen whānau involvement and work together to improve outcomes for Māori and Pacific learners.

The evening brought together students from across the Kāhui Ako to showcase their incredible talents. Audiences were treated to a rich variety of performances, including kapa haka, Tongan, Samoan, and Filipino cultural items, a moving gospel choir, and lively ukulele ensembles. Each performance was met with enthusiasm and encouragement from the crowd.

Food stalls created a festive atmosphere, and thanks to the generosity of Fletcher Living, families also enjoyed a free sausage sizzle. OHS students played a key role throughout the evening, supporting with set-up and helping the event run smoothly.

The night was a true reflection of how diversity enriches our lives and how powerful it is when we come together as one community. A huge thank you goes to the Lalaga core group of staff and parents for their hard work in organising such an inspiring and memorable event.
