Te Wiki o te Reo Māori- 2025

Te Wiki o te Reo Māori- 2025

TTe Wiki o te Reo Māori has been extremely enjoyable and a rich learning experience.

The hāngī cooked for the whole school for lunch on Thursday was hugely popular with both students and staff. For some, it was their first experience of kai prepared in a traditional hāngī. It was a resounding success. The food was delicious. Preparation for the hāngī started on Wednesday, and students from the whānau class stayed overnight on the marae. The process of preparing and sharing food embodies cultural values. It is a communal event that strengthens community bonds and teaches us all tikanga and manaakitanga in the most enjoyable way!

During the week, the Kapa Haka group visited local intermediate schools, performing for very excited tauira. At Royal Oak Intermediate, OHS students ran Tuakana Teina workshops, sharing their knowledge and enthusiasm for all things Māori,  helping Royal Oak students feel a sense of pride and confidence in their ability to learn te reo.

We have been given whakatauki to inspire us and have been encouraged to incorporate te reo Māori into our day. As we move forward through the year, we will continue developing our skills and pride in te reo Māori.”
