The torrential rain that swept over guests at the unveiling of the replacement Daniel Keys Memorial Plaque did nothing to diminish the significance of this auspicious occasion.
A large group of friends and family gathered to honour their much-loved friend, brother, and son.
Daniel, who served as Head Boy of OHS in 1991 and captained the 1st XV, was later tragically killed in London.
Our main sports field, opened in 2005 by then-principal Mr Ken Prebble, was named in Daniel’s memory. The Keys family has a long and valued association with the school, and the Daniel Keys Foundation, established in his honour, continues to provide a sports scholarship for a talented athlete who may not otherwise have access to the resources needed to reach their potential.
The number of people who came to witness the reinstatement of the plaque was a testament to the esteem in which friends and the wider OHS alumni community hold Daniel and his family.
Huge thanks to everyone who attended, and special thanks to Rhiannon Boulton for reminding us how important our shared history is, and for her legendary organisational skills!
