A great evening of connection, information, and community as Year 9 whānau met the Kaitiaki teachers who will guide their learners for the next five years.
Last night, we welcomed our Year 9 whānau to our annual Meet the Kaitiaki Teacher evening, an important event that helps establish the partnership between home and school. At Onehunga High School, the Kaitiaki teacher is the significant adult who supports each student throughout their five years of secondary education, guiding their wellbeing, academic progress, and overall journey through OHS.
We were delighted with the large turnout. Our Year 9 Dean Ms Reid, and Deputy Principal Ms Mason addressed the whānau, sharing key information about the year ahead. They spoke about our school life, reporting system, assessment expectations, co‑curricular opportunities, and the vital importance of attendance and punctuality. They also outlined the many ways whānau can support learning at home and stay connected to school life.
Following the presentations, families spent time with their child's Kaitiaki teacher, building early relationships that will support each learner’s success. The evening ended with a BBQ,a great chance for staff and families to mingle and get to know each other.
It was wonderful to see so many whānau present and to hear such positive feedback about how well our new Year 9 students have settled into life at OHS. Their enthusiasm and confidence have set a fantastic tone for the year ahead.
