The 2025 NCEA results mark a significant milestone for Onehunga High School, with achievement reaching the 85 percent Level 1 target and reflecting the school’s vision of every student achieving their aspirations at OHS and beyond.
Onehunga High School is pleased to report a significant improvement in student achievement across NCEA Levels 1, 2 and 3 in 2025. These results reflect the sustained effort of students, the professionalism of staff, and the continued development of a strong academic culture across the school.
At NCEA Level 1, the school achieved an 85 percent pass rate. This represents a substantial increase from 59 percent in 2022 and marks an improvement of more than 26 percentage points over three years. The 2025 result places Onehunga High School well above both the national average and the Equity Index Band. Establishing strong foundations at Level 1 remains an important priority, as this qualification provides the platform for success in the senior years.
Achievement at NCEA Level 2 has also strengthened. In 2025, 77 percent of students gained the qualification, compared with 60 percent in 2022. Over this period the school has moved from performing below national benchmarks to achieving results above both national and equity index averages.
At NCEA Level 3, 84 percent of students gained the qualification in 2025, increasing from 57 percent in 2022. More than 150 students successfully completed their final NCEA qualification this year. The improvement of 27 percentage points over four years reflects sustained progress across the senior school.
The improvement is evident across all groups of students. Māori and Pacific learners are achieving results well above national averages. Māori Level 1 achievement reached 77 percent compared with 52 percent nationally, while Pacific Level 1 achievement reached 80 percent compared with 56 percent nationally. These outcomes reflect the impact of a strong learning culture and consistently high expectations across the school. This progress has developed steadily over recent years. Since 2022, Māori Level 1 achievement has increased from 49 percent to 77 percent, while Pacific Level 3 achievement has increased from 47 percent to 80 percent, demonstrating sustained improvement in outcomes for these learners.
The focus moving forward will be on strengthening the depth of achievement through increased Merit and Excellence endorsements, improving University Entrance outcomes, and expanding opportunities for students to pursue advanced academic pathways.
