Ngā Reo Rau o te Haerenga continues to play an important role in maintaining strong connections with its Māori community.
Now in its fourth year, Ngā Reo Rau o te Haerenga brings together school leadership, staff, students, and community representatives to ensure Māori voice, perspectives, and aspirations are reflected in the life of the school. The committee provides valuable guidance on Māori achievement, strategic direction, and the school’s commitments under Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
A key focus of the committee is fostering meaningful community engagement. This includes building strong relationships with whānau and supporting initiatives that create opportunities for Māori students to succeed and excel as Māori.
The committee held its first meeting of the year today, welcoming new Te Reo Māori teacher Harley Watene. Discussions focused on Māori student achievement, ongoing initiatives to improve outcomes, and planning for significant upcoming events.
Planning is also underway to celebrate 30 years of our marae, Te Haerenga, marking an important milestone in the history of our kura and its connection to the community.
Through its work, the Māori Committee continues to ensure that Onehunga High School is a place where Māori identity, language, and culture are valued and celebrated.
