Te Haerenga kapa haka rōpū takes the stage at Polyfest with a powerful and assured performance.
The stage was set, the adrenaline was high, and the spirit of Te Haerenga was undeniable this past Tuesday, March 31st, as our kapa haka rōpū took to the stage at Polyfest.
Representing a range of talent from Year 9 to Year 13, our 12 students stood unified, showcasing the results of intense dedication and cultural pride. Despite the pressure of the big stage, the group delivered a performance that resonated with strength and mana.
Under the expert guidance and leadership of Taioro Studios, our rōpū learned their full bracket in record time. Their ability to quickly master the power of the haka and the fluid movements of the waiata ā-ringa is a testament to their commitment and the high-calibre instruction provided by the Taioro team.
While the students held the spotlight, the success of Te Haerenga was a true community effort. A performance of this scale requires a support system behind the scenes, and we extend our deepest thanks to the parents and teachers who worked tirelessly in the lead-up:
- The Craft: For the hours spent sewing and perfecting the fit of the kākahu (costumes).
- The Sustenance: For the nutritious meals provided during long wānanga (rehearsals), keeping the rōpū energised.
- The Artistry: For the careful application of moko on performance morning, and the creation of the beautiful headpieces worn by our wahine.
Congratulations to every performer in Te Haerenga. You represented your school and your whānau with immense pride. We look forward to seeing this rōpū continue to grow and thrive in the years to come.
He mihi ki a koutou katoa mō tō koutou kaha me tō koutou mahi. Ka pai, Te Haerenga.
