Dominic Eaton and Harley Taufelila reflected on their MUNA experience and thanked Mangakiekie Rotary for its ongoing support.
On Monday 15 June, OHS students Dominic Eaton and Harley Taufelila attended the weekly dinner meeting of Mangakiekie Rotary to share their experiences from the Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA).
Accompanied by Deputy Principal Mr Haines, the students took part in a question-and-answer session with Rotary members, speaking about the global issues they debated and the opportunities the event provided. Representing Senegal and France, they researched their assigned countries and debated topics including maritime law and human rights. The students explained that MUNA gave them a greater understanding of how countries approach international issues from different perspectives. They reflected on the confidence they gained through public speaking and debating, as well as the friendships they formed with students from other schools. They also spoke about the opportunity to meet politicians and community leaders and learn more about international affairs.
Dominic and Harley thanked Mangakiekie Rotary for its ongoing support of OHS's participation in MUNA. Rotary members were impressed by the students' confidence, maturity and thoughtful responses, with both students representing the school exceptionally well throughout the evening.
The visit provided an opportunity to celebrate the partnership between OHS and Mangakiekie Rotary and to acknowledge the positive impact MUNA continues to have on students.
