Twenty students gained valuable insight into legal careers and pathways.
This week, 20 senior OHS students interested in a career in law visited Meredith Connell to learn more about the legal profession and the pathways available to them. Three lawyers spoke with students about their careers and shared their experiences of studying and practising law. Students heard about the challenges of completing a law degree, the different directions a legal career can take and opportunities to use law to serve communities.
The discussion also explored changes shaping the profession. Students asked about the growing use of artificial intelligence in legal work and whether a New Zealand law degree could lead to opportunities overseas. These conversations gave students a broader understanding of the opportunities and demands of a career in law. Students were also given a behind the scenes look at the firm. They visited the mock courtroom used for trial preparation and saw the working environment where lawyers prepare their cases.
Thank you to Meredith Connell for welcoming our students and sharing their knowledge and experience. The visit gave students an opportunity to ask informed questions and consider whether law could form part of their future study and career plans.
