Our 2026 Sports Awards recognised the achievements of our athletes and teams.
Last Wednesday evening, we held our annual Onehunga High School Sports Awards, celebrating the achievements of our students across a wide range of sporting codes. The evening was hosted by Deputy Principal Mr Matthew Haines and recognised the commitment of our athletes, coaches and managers throughout 2026.
In her address, Principal Shameen Hayat reflected on the significant progress being made in sport at OHS, including increased investment in coaching, athlete development and facilities, alongside the introduction of Basketball, Football and Rugby Academies into the school timetable.
Our guest speaker was Matua Anthony Keung, who has returned to OHS as Teacher in Charge of Basketball for our Sports Academy. A former OHS teacher, Mr Keung has an outstanding coaching record, including national secondary school and age group championship titles. He has also coached at international level with the New Zealand Māori Men's Basketball team, which won gold at the FIBA Oceania competition. He spoke about the importance of a strong work ethic and the opportunities sport provides for personal development.
Throughout the evening, we recognised students for their achievements in Cricket, Volleyball, Basketball, Football, Netball and Rugby, alongside our major team and individual awards.
