Connecting classroom learning with real-world health careers.
Earlier this term, Health Science Academy students joined peers from 13 other schools for a programme hosted by Moana Connect, Te Whatu Ora, and the FOU (Future is Open to Us) National Pacific Workforce team.
Throughout the day, students participated in workshops focused on Pacific culture, workforce exposure, and wellbeing. These sessions encouraged students to consider future opportunities within the health sector while developing their understanding of the pathways available to them.
A highlight of the programme was a panel discussion featuring health professionals, including former OHS Head Prefect Shekinah Gafa, who is now a midwife. Hearing directly from professionals provided students with valuable insight into a range of health-related careers.
The event also provided an opportunity for students to connect with peers from other Health Science Academy schools. Students engaged positively in the activities and discussions throughout the day, gaining new perspectives and experiences.
Our Year 12 students are now looking forward to their upcoming hospital tour.
